  14. Molecular Signatures of Saudi Thyroid Cancer : Identifying Molecular Signature of Saudi Thyroid Cancer Using Next Generation Sequencing Technology Bas... BioProject

    ID: PRJEB5127

    Keywords: Other

    Access Type: download

dataset.description: urrence and aggressiveness of a subset of PTC. We aim to analyze the genomic DNA sequences of 500 thyroid cancers and the corresponding DNA from blood. With the goal of a better understanding the pathobiology of thyroid carcinogenesis we will use state of the art "deep sequencing" technology to decipher the molecular and genetic signature of Saudi PTC. The development of next-generation (NextGen) sequencing technologies has spurred high hopes for the identification of novel biomarkers for disease diagnosis, prognosis, and prediction, including thyroid cancer. Our objectives will be achieved through the following aims: the studies of specific aim 1 will be the generation of comprehensive catalogues of genomic abnormalities (somatic mutations) in thyroid cancer of the papillary thyroid carcinoma histology subtype which is of clinical and social importance in Saudi Arabia. Specific aim 2 will catalogue for each papillary thyroid carcinoma to include the full range of somatic mutations including single-nucleotide v...

  19. Alzheimer's disease and the normal aged brain (steph-affy-human-433773) BioProject

    ID: PRJNA96387

    Keywords: Transcriptome or Gene expression

    Access Type: download

dataset.description: ns to mitigate some of these deleterious effects. Aim 1. Collect brain samples from three Alzheimer’s Disease Centers (ADCs) for subsequent gene expression profiling. Individuals will be stratified with respect to diagnostic groups (using both clinical and neuropathological criteria), age groups, and APOE genotype. 150 individual brains will be sampled from the Arizona ADC, the Duke University ADC, and the Washington University ADC. Miniscule sample sizes (200 um of sectioned tissue) from six brain regions that are histopathologically or metabolically relevant to AD and aging will be collected, ensuring that this proposal does not deplete the national resource. Frozen and fixed samples will be sent to Phoenix, sectioned in a standardized fashion, and then returned. Aim 2. Tissue heterogeneity will be eliminated prior to expression profiling by performing laser capture microscopy on all brain regions.
  20. High oxygen prevents fetal lethality due to lack of catecholamines OmicsDI

    ID: E-GEOD-10341

    Date Released: 05-02-2014

Description: Catecholamine-deficient fetuses also induced HIF-1 target genes to a greater extent than wild type siblings, supporting the notion that null fetuses experience greater hypoxia or have an enhanced response to hypoxia. Hypoxia induces a 13-fold increase in plasma norepinephrine levels, which would be expected to increase heart rate, thereby, improving oxygen delivery in wild type mice. Surprisingly, increasing maternal oxygen (FiO2 33% or 63%) prevents the effects of catecholamine-deficiency, restoring heart rate, myocardial mass and survival of Th null fetuses. We suggest that norepinephrine mediates fetal survival by maintaining oxygen homeostasis as vulnerability to constitutive hypoxia increases as fetal growth accelerates during normal development. Keywords: Comparative with respect to genotype and oxygen conditions The first aim
