    Description: ine production (IL-1β, CXCL5, S100A7) and tissue remodelling (MMP7, MMP9, MMP12, HAS3). There was no difference in the level of IFNG between cases and controls. However, cases had increased INDO, NOS2A, and IL13RA2 and reduced IL13. Ct was detected in 1/772. Cases show evidence of ongoing inflammation and tissue remodelling, which were more marked where clinical inflammation was also present. Significantly, these processes appear to be active in the absence of current Ct infection. There was limited evidence of a TH1 response (INDO, NOS2A) and no association between a TH2 response and cases. The epithelium appears actively involved in late cicatricial stages of trachoma through production of pro-inflammatory factors (IL-1β, CXCL5, S100A7). Longitudinal studies are needed to investigate which aetiological factors and pathways are associated with progressive scarring and whether simply controlling chlamydial infection will halt progressio...

These genes included those involved in cytokine-cytokine signalling cascades (IL1, IL1r, IL1r2, Ccl 4, 6, 10), focal adhesion (Fn1, ICAM1) and tissue remodelling (VEGF, Pim1). Furthermore, the observed alteration in expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their inhibitors (TIMPs) indicates a key role in membrane integrity and cellular adhesion in ricin poisoning. Data captured using this transcriptomic approach could be used to develop a specific approach to the treatment of inhalational ricin exposure. This work was conducted as part of a wider programme of work to compare a number of militarily relevant lung damaging agents, with a view to establishing a rational basis for the identification of more generic medical countermeasures.     dataset.description: H and AREG/EREG increased the expression of genes associated with regulation of cell proliferation, cell migration, blood coagulation and extracellular matrix remodeling. FSH alone induced the expression of genes involved in inflammatory response and in the response to reactive oxygen species. Moreover, FSH stimulated the expression of genes closely related to some ovulatory events either exclusively or significantly more than AREG/EREG (AREG, ADAMTS1, HAS2, TNFAIP6, PLAUR, PLAT, and HSD17B7). In contrast to AREG/EREG, FSH also increased the expression of genes coding for key transcription factors (CEBPB, FOS, ID1/3, and NR5A2), which may contribute to the differing expression profiles of FSH- and AREG/EREG-treated cumulus cells. Conclusions: The impact of FSH on cumulus cell gene transcription was higher than the impact of EGF-like factors in terms of the number of cell functions affected as well as the number of over- and underexpressed genes. Both FSH and EGF-like factors overexpressed genes involved in the post-ovulatory switch in steroidogenesis and tissue remodelling.
