Human MCF-7 breast cancer cells were infected for 72 h with (i) control adenovirus expressing β-gal; (ii) adenovirus expressing ERβ/ESR2; or (ii) adenovirus expressing ERβ/ESR2 followed by treatment for 24 h with ERα/ESR1 siRNA. All three groups of cells were then treated for 24 h with vehicle or 17βE2 (10 nM), Gen, Sequol or Liquir (all 1 µM).
