description:
The agency conducted the CPS on behalf of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. CPS was used to provide monthly estimates of employment, unemployment and other characteristics of the general labor force, of the population as a whole and of various subgroups of the population. The agency routinely released public use microdata files with CPS microdata beginning in 1968. This series consists of public use microdata files containing core questions included in every CPS. The CPS is a household sa mple survey of approximately 50,000 households. The core questions on employment status and other basic demographic characteristics supply standard monthly labor force data for the week prior to the survey. The core is where comprehensive information is given on the employment status, occupation and industry of persons older than 14 or 15 years, weeks worked, hours per week worked, reason not working full-time, total income and income components, and residence. This data comprises government records extracted from the Archival Research Catalog (ARC). See the ARC catalog entry for this series for more information on this data and how to order it.
