This study focuses on the American educational system. Teachers in public schools were asked about issues including establishing national standards for students, who would be best to establish the standards, requiring teachers to take a basic competency test to keep their job, increasing Federal Chapter one funding, decision-making power in the school system, ways to attract and retain good teachers, differential pay for certain teachers (i.e. math and science teachers, teachers at urban scho ols, and teachers at schools in isolated areas), educational methods for students who speak foreign languages, safety in and around schools, alternative educational programs, parental involvement, and Head Start programs. Demographic data include location of school (i.e. rural, urban, inner city, etc.), number of years as a teacher, number of students at respondent's school from families whose income is below the average of the community, number of students from minority families, membership in a teachers union, age, and race.
