The five Mineral Industries files contain similar data. MI1 presents general statistics by SIC code at the two-, three-, and four- digit level including the total number of mineral establishments, the number of employees, payroll, and the number of workers in production development and exploration activities. Information on value added in mining, cost of supplies and purchased machinery installed, value of shipments and receipts, and capital expenditures is included. MI2 presents detailed sta tistics for many of the general categories by two-, three-, and four-digit levels. In addition, cost of supplies by selected materials (energy products), Mineral development, and exploration expenditures are given. MI3 gives general statistics, as outlined in MI1, by employment-size of establishment. Summaries are presented at the two- and four-digit SIC industry level. MI4 data are presented for establishment counts by two- digit groups by 10 employment size classes for divisions and states. MI5 provides summaries for establishment counts by two-digit groups by four em ployment size classes by state and county. Summaries are given in MI1 for the total U.S., regions, divisions, states, and counties with 100 or more employees of Mineral industries establishments. MI2 presents data by industry level for the U.S., with no industry detail for regions, divisions, and states. MI3 contains U.S. total data, MI4 has summaries for divisions and states, and MI5 presents data for counties. Data contained in the files pertains to 1972. The Census was conducted e very 10 years from 1840 to 1929, at 5 year intervals from 1929 to 1939, and from 1954 on
