These questions deal with media use and importance rankings for various social issues. The unit was developed by Robert L. Stevenson (School of Journalism, UNC-CH). It asks Rs to rank the importance of nine items in the news. Then Rs are asked to list and indicate the number of days they read/watched daily newspapers, network news programs, and news magazines. The unit was administered five times to CAPS/87 respondents (in sessions 12, 13, 16, 18, and 20). The researchers hoped to identify th e time lag between media attention to and public recognition of issues. See codebook for additional information
