Pyrobaculum aerophilum. This organism is a facultatively anaerobic, nitrate-reducing hyperthermophilic archaeon. Unlike other members of the genus Pyrobaculum, P. aerophilum is able to grow both aerobically and anaerobically by dissimilatory nitrate reduction. Cells are rod-shaped 0.5-0.6 x 1.5-8 mkm and may form aggregates arranged in a V-shape.
