description:
This is a demonstration implementation study to assess the safety of PrePex MC procedures conducted by nurses and clinical officers during routine service delivery in Lusaka, Zambia. The study design follows World Health Organisation's (WHO) framework for Evaluation of Circumcision Devices. The primary end point for the study is to assess the incidence of moderate and severe adverse events ass ociated with the PrePex MC procedure. Secondary endpoints include assessing participant acceptability, pain, and time to return to normal activity; and assessing provider acceptability. A total of 500 adult males ages 18 to 49 years are enrolled in this study. Unlike the published results from Rwanda, where the studies were done in a district hospital, this study is conducted within the context of routine service delivery in Lusaka, Zambia to identify potential issues that must be addressed as MC services are scaled up. Data from this study are needed to inform the MOH as they plan to integrate PrePex into their Voluntary Male Circumcision (VMMC) program. The study will be conducted in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Zambia through Ministry of Health (MOH).
