"Topics addressed in this study include the most important issues for the government to address; ratings of political leaders and parties; favorite Democratic candidates for the 2004 presidential election; keeping troops in Iraq; likelihood that the U.S. will be able to create a stable government in Iraq; Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and links to Al Qaeda; confidence in institutions; health insurance; government surveillance and civil liberties; and the power of different groups in infl uencing government policy, politicians, and policy makers in Washington. Demographic variables include respondent's sex, age, educational status, disability status, origin or descent (Spanish, Hispanic, or Latino), race, political party self identification, political philosophy, religious preference, number of individuals age 18 or over, between ages 13 and 17, and under age 13 who live in the household, presence of a disabled individual age 16 or over who lives in the household, household incom e, and number of voice telephone lines available at home."
