"The first survey was designed to study specific grievances and attitudes toward militancy, readiness for racial violence, and black separatism. In addition to general demographic data, information was collected on political party preference; Negro leadership within the community; local and federal government's responsiveness to the problems of Negroes; neighborhood problems; and treatment of Negroes by neighborhood businesses, police, and landlords. The second survey (after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) was designed to focus on basic comparisons between pre-assassination and post-assassination responses."
