description:
The Sensation Seeking Scale (Form V) was developed to differentiate optimum level of stimulation and arousal in individuals. The scale contain 4 subscales -- Thrill and Adventure Seeking (TAS), Experience Seeking (ES), Disinhibition (DIS), and Boredom Susceptibility (BS). For each item, respondents indicate a preference between two statements (A and B). The items for each subscale and the statement choice (A or B) for keying are provided below: TAS - 3A, 11B, 16A, 17A, 20B, 21B, 23A, 28A, 38B , 40B. ES - 4B, 6A, 9A, 10B, 14A, 18A, 19B, 22A, 26B, 37B. DIS - 1A, 12B, 13B, 25B, 29A, 30B, 32A, 33B, 35B, 36A. BS - 2B, 5A, 7B, 8A, 15B, 24A, 27B, 31B, 34A, 39A. The total raw score (SENSATTO) is the number of sensation seeking choices endorsed on all 40 items or the sum of the raw scores on the subscales. With the exception of the Boredom Susceptibility Scale, the subscales have reliability between sexes and national samples (American and English). Administration of the Sensation Seeking Scale with an Anxiety State Scale attempt to predict whether a person will choose to participate in a given situation depending on the conditions of arousa l.
