Title: electronic Medical Records & Genomics (eMERGE)
ID:
PRJNA158491
description:
Organized by the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) with additional funding from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences in Phase I (2007-2011) and from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development in Phase II (2011-2015), the eMERGE Network is a national consortium formed to develop, disseminate, and apply approaches to research that combine DNA biorepositories with electronic medical record (EMR) systems for large-scale, high-throughput genetic/genomic research. The consortium is composed of seven member sites to investigate gene-disease relationships and to explore the best avenues to incorporate genetic/genomic variants into the EMRs for use in clinical care. More than a dozen phenotypes are currently being investigated in more than 32,000 eMERGE participants. Themes of bioinformatics, genomic epidemiology, genomic medicine and ethical, legal, social, and policy issues are of particular relevance to eMERGE; five workgroups are exploring these topics in-depth.
